I am torn between eating meat or not, advice please?
I read Peter Singer's Animal Liberation. It was good, even if his philosophy didn't have me entirely convinced.
But for medical reasons, my diet is now further restricted. If I can't eat meat or cheese dishes (keep in mind I live in the Midwest and don't have the money to shop at health food stores), what am I supposed to eat?
I am tired of a restricted diet, but I don't know if I could overcome the guilt of knowing how the factory farms treat the animals.
And didn't humans evolve eating meat, even if we didn't start that way? Isn't beef more easily digested by our system than a fake veggie burger?

Well, meat is good for you in moderate amounts. Humans need a well rounded diet of plants, and animals. If your body has negative reactions to specific meats try to isolate which ones give you trouble.
Factory farms are certainly not humanities finest achievement. Aside from the poor raising and treatment of animals, meat from a factory farm is often fed with the cheapest food, not the best (grass for grazing animals) and full of hormones and antibiotics.
You live in the Midwest and imply you do not have access to many organic animal products... but living there do you have the means to get your own? Venison is a very healthy meat. Raising your own animal and having it slaughtered locally can ensure that the animal was comfortable and cared for, and that it died humanely.
Also, eggs (unfertilized means it's not a chicken) contain nearly every nutrient we need to eat except Vitamin C, which makes sense because a baby chicken would have to form using only the material inside the shell.
If your decision not to eat meat is personal well that's just you exercising your right as a human, bravo.
However,
If you believe in evolution then yes, humans evolved to eat meat... otherwise we wouldn't. If evolution is how we got here then anything, and in fact, everything we do is "natural" since we're just animals, albeit the most uppity ones on the planet.
If you believe in the Bible then we were created as vegetarians, but were given permission at Noah's time to eat meat, as nutrition would be harder to come by in a world devastated by the flood and slowly degrading on the genetic level.

The country that consumes the most dairy products, is also the highest in cancer, diabetes, osteopreosis (YEP, IRONIC HUH.) and heart disease.
I love animals too, and have seen videos of people killing animals for their fur. But cutting meat out of my diet ia not an option. No way girl. But I don't eat beef. Nothing from cow, it's bad for you. Pork is ESPECIALLY BAD, because it is mainly FAT. o-o;;

There's a search feature that will help you find these recipes. They're inexpensive and awesomely good.

There are tons of foods at your regular market that are vegetarian friendly. Whole grains like whole wheat pasta and bread, brown rice, veggies, fruits, nut products, soya products, legumes etc.
Veggie burgers are not fake. They are vegetables or soy and are very edible. I use substitutions in almost every recipe that calls for meat. I make Tacos, sloppy Joe's, pot pies, stews, casseroles, pasta and rice dishes and more. It's not restrictive at all to me.
Your question says you are torn between eating and meat and not eating meat and then you say you medically cannot eat meat...so what is there to be torn about if you have no choice?
Humans are naturally omnivorous. That is, we have evolved to eat meat and vegetation. If your diet has been restricted, it might be due to colesterol or something of that nature. I suggest you eat fish and chicken. Beef is an exellent source of zinc, protein, and B vitamins. Look into the lean cuts of beef. They're good for you!

Is it really cheaper to eat fast food than to cook for yourself?
I'm going to set my question in the context of a group of 4. I have not been to a fast food place in over 10 years, and I am still a college student. Therefore my income isn't very high, but I still manage to spend maybe $60 a month on vegetables, cereals, milk, etc etc. I love to cook, so I always buy raw ingredients, and it doesn't bother me that I have to prepare it.
People always say that part of America's obesity problem is because fast food is so available and so cheap. IS eating at a fast food place, not even daily, but let's say 2 or 3 times a week, really cheaper than going to a grocery store? Please think before you answer. Don't just consider the fact that it's about $5 to get a burger or whatever, and at a supermarket, that's about 2lbs of tomatoes. Please consider that when you're shopping at a supermarket, you're purchasing ingredients that make more than just the singular serving one might be purchasing from a fast food place.Is it really cheaper to eat fast food than to cook for yourself?
I would say it's cheaper to Cook at home then to eat fast food because If you figure about $5 for each fast food meal that's like $15-$20 a day if you eat 3 meals and a snack. If you go to the grocery store you can get larger quanities and use them for a couple different meals especially if your only cooking for yourself.
For smaller families ( single person) making may be bit costly. For 3 persons it maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay be chearer. In all fast food price, the cooking cost may be slightly lower but the cost of ambience, premises and labor is very high in all countries (specially in deveoled Western economies). Yes, it is cheaper. When you buy bulk packs of chicken etc. you can break it down for future use this saves money, since you can buy at least 2 weeks worth of meat and freeze and the nice part is you make less trips to the store.
it is so simple. if your time buying and cooking is much expensive than the price of your fast food order, then it would be better for you to eat at fast food. just study the cost of your time, then you will have the answer.

I have actually took the time to analyze this question from an economic standpoint(viewing food consumption today vs when the baby boomer generation were kids) and from my own standpoint. Let me first start off saying, there is no way you spend only 60 dollars a month on food, especially if you are eating as healthy as you do. The more healthy you eat the more money it cost. Right now, food is more expensive than it has ever been in history (on a cost adjusted basis). It is definitely cheaper to eat fast food now then going grocery shopping.
Crazy isn't it, that food has become so expensive.
Fact about fast food....
Unhealthy food is cheaper because our government's policies support its production.
We're spending nearly $30 billion a year to subsidize corn and soy production.
Where do those foods go?
Into our food supply as high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated soybean oil (trans fats), that's where!
Since the 1970s -- when our agricultural policies where changed to support corn and soy farmers -- we're consuming, on average, an extra 500 calories (mostly in the form of cheap, artificial high-fructose corn syrup) per person.
Corn and soy are also used to feed cattle for the production of meat and dairy. In fact, 70 percent of the wheat, corn, and soy farmed in this country is used to feed animals used for our food.
The world's cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people -- more than the entire human population on Earth!
So, when our government helps pay for these foods -- well, of course they're cheaper!
That explains the low price tag. But what about the OTHER costs to you?

But for a long time, it's so more expensive. Why ? Because we only eat one kind of food without the complete nutrition (maybe we only get carbohydrat and fat)
But if we cook by ourselves, we can modify this food and combine it as my body needed, of course the nutrition more guaranted.
The value added again, we more trust about the clean of food than we buy fastfood.

You can go to the south street seaport, which is free and see older ships, and they have a mall. From there you can get a great view of the Brooklyn bridge, and look at the ferry's going by. Then another free activity is take the Staten Island ferry back and forth, you can take amazing pictures of the statue of Liberty. You can also go see some great architecture on the west side. There is a building off of the west side high way and west 23rd street that is a MUST! The shape, and color of the building rock! Have a great time!

it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.
by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)

all i like to eat are cheeseburgers i snack on fruit and stuff and have other stuff for dinner but if we go out to eat or are out shopping i am always getting burgers/ fries. i am 23.5 weeks and have only gained 6-7 pounds so it is not affecting my weight at all i don't really have a big appetite . i would say i eat burgers about 3-4 times a weekHow important is it to eat healthy in pregnancy will somthing bad happen to the baby?
It's not perfect for you, but you will be ok.
I ate junk food when I was pregnant with my son, I didn't want anything else.
Now I am pregnant again, All i want is water, veggies, soups, etc... So I MUST be having a girl haha!

I say at least I'm trying to eat something and supplement with some fruits, veggie, juice, vitamin, etc. I should be good and people say during the pregnancy our taste can change so maybe later you can eat other stuff.
Also if you feel you are not eating too healthy then just exercise or make a concious effort to be more active. How important is it to eat healthy in pregnancy will somthing bad happen to the baby?
Plenty of babies are born w/out the mother taking vitamins or eating some doctor-prescribed diet. BUT, the studies show that a mother should follow such recommendations, for the benefit of the baby. A lot of humans exist without the help of vitamin/nutrition guidelines. It is not that "something bad will happen", but that the child will be aided by a proper diet.
Well I'm sure you know that it is BETTER for the baby if you eat well. Everyone's body works more efficiently when you eat well, including a fetus'. But if you have poor nutrition habits now, you'll probably pass them on to your child anyway when he/she is older, so unless you'd like to change your lifestyle for good, its probably not going to matter now.

Me and my family were traveling home from a trip to Disney and we had nothing to eat that day so we stopped at a Burger King in Saint Petersburg FL Gateway shopping plaza ..we don't eat fast food because its very unhealthy but we were very hungry, shortly after arriving home about 20 min later all four of us started to throw up and sorry, had diarrhea..I do not think it was anything we ate the previous day, and this was for breakfast, any of you eat at this location and experience this?..or any other BK restaurants recently? who should I call to have a look at this place? and should we see the doctor?

Why does the government and others talk about obesity in America like it's a shocker?
Everything today is about convience.. you don't have to get out of your car to pick up dinner, get your prescriptions, or even your dry cleaning. A double cheese burger at Mcdonalds is cheaper than making dinner at home, you don't have to get up to change the TV station, you don't have to get up to change a CD out, you don't have to get up to change a DVD out, you don't even have to get out and shop anymore all you have to do is sign on to your computer. You don't have to leave your house to rent a movie anymore. Kids today would rather play with their gameboy or the playstation version that they can take anywhere with them then go to a park-and if they do go to the park they take their gameboy with them. They took recess out of schools. You could stay in your house or your car and get everything you need without actually having to go in anywhere... so please tell me why it is such a shocking idea that the majority of Americans and kids are obese or overweightWhy does the government and others talk about obesity in America like it's a shocker?

It's not shocking, its just going to start costing the government a lot of money, so they are trying to make people aware.
I agree it should not be a shock but the only one's that can change it are the parents ..we have to show our kids that even though there are those conveniences out there we still need to do things the old fashion way and actually go to the store and blockbuster and park our own cars instead of valet and I personally make my kids go out side and play when they get home after school for at least an hour and then they come in do there home work and then have 1 hr to play game cube or whatever .. they are our kids and nothing will change until we as adults set the example

|I dont eat alott at the moment, is this ok as a meal?
I'm on a weightloss diet and ive barely reached 1000 calories today, is it ok to go up the local chip shop and get chicken burger and chips, Im 15, 6ft, weigh 174lb. its actual a diet where im doing cardio and weightlifting, thanks|I dont eat alott at the moment, is this ok as a meal?
You are eating too little if you are working out. Start eating more calories and for now just try and get some more food. If you eat that little and work out you could end up with some health issues. Unless your doctor prescribed it to you, that kind of diet and exercise routine shouldn't be attempted without a health professionals (in this case, certified doctor or nurse) OK.

i like playing those yahoo games, like burger shop, diner dash, etc (if you dont know what those games are then dont answer the question) anyways. i like to play those types of games but they cost 20 bucks a piece, which adds up. besides that, i complete them pretty quickly. i just want to know if anyone knows a site that i can like pay lets say 50 bucks a month to play them unlimited. not just one, but many games, please help. How to go about opening my own kid friendly malt shop?
I would llike to start my own malt shop for kids between 8-14, with a soda fountain, a couple of pinball machines, possible craft areas with credit card top up plan that would enable kids to learn about money and it would allow them to buy without cash. - Bellevue on Rte. 65
- North Hills
- Downtown locatons (3 stores)

Can eating peanuts be a good meal replacement?
I'm trying to stay away from processed carbs but i'm finding that i'm always hungry. When i'm at work there aren't many healthy places to eat at i.e. lunch choice includes Wendy's and Burger Kings and sandwich shops so they're all high in carbs. But i found that peanuts are really filling. Can i eat peanuts and fruits as a meal replacement? Fat, Carb, Protein and Fiber and Sugar. A person may be shopping in WalMart to pick up a new broom, office supplies, personal products, a new brand-name coffee maker, etc. In other words, buying stuff that is the same everywhere you go except for price.
A person can take children to a burger joint and get them water, milk or juice with a basic little burger, veggie burger or chicken chunks - and its not such a horrible meal if its only occasionally.
Some kids may even eat a small salad or pieces of veggies from it as well.
In other words, if you're embarrassed by these places you should get over that. If you look down at others who frequent these places you should get over that too. It doesn't mean that's the only place they shop or eat. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't have good taste or eat burgers every night of the week.
Lighten up. Everybody needs a little tacky experience in their life once in a while. If its "cool" that you're worried about it may actually be more "cool" to just not worry about what others think and just go where you get the best prices or where your kid likes to go once in a while.

Also, the burger joint isn't an embarassment either. Are you telling me that you've never been to McDonald's? So, every once in a while, my kids enjoy a Happy Meal. As long as they aren't eating it every day, it is not that big of a deal. If we go there, I get a salad or a grilled chicken sandwich. Neither of those are horrible for me. I don't understand why everybody has to try and make themselves feel better about themselves by putting other people down.

Then use a well past the use by date of chilly sauce for that genuine flavour.
You need to afdd chopped onions, mustard, eggs and breadcrumbs.
If you really want to get the flavour of a kebab shop cook it in old oil.
drop it on the floor first, give it a rub with filthy hands and remember to drink a gallon of beer before you eat it. Those were the days
